| Late notice, I know . . . Tonight, Monday August 5 at 5:30 pm we’ve got Marc Aronoff come to speak with us about his new book Love’s Guests: Reflections of Inspiration and Wonder. It is an extrapolation of the work of a 15th century saint, Catherine of Genoa. ![]() Marc, a Christian mystic, licensed psychotherapist, playwright, also offers contemplative retreats for individuals and organizations around the country. He has lived and worked in Lenox for many years and first approached me for a reading several years ago when he first started working on this book. It is, in one great sense, a guide through the work of this remarkable woman who was sainted by the Catholic Church for her work among the sick and the poor. It’s also just a very sweetly designed prayer book. I don’t recall another author’s work like this that we’ve celebrated here at The Bookstore, and I am really looking forward to hearing what Marc Aronoff has to say in this book. Please join us Monday August 5th at 5:30 pm. Next night, as so often happens here at The Bookstore, we have something entirely different for you. Tuesday, August 6 at 5:00 pm, Harold Holzer, the acclaimed historian and biographer of American’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, and a long-time friend of The Bookstore will present a stunning 3rd edition, in paperback, of his award-winning Monument Man: The Life & Art of Daniel Chester French. French, of course, the creator of the iconic statue that is the heart of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., is here given the treatment that far too few sculptors are given. The Wall Street Journal says of this book, “It is a thing as rare as it is welcome – an authoritative book about a visual artist that is both well written and jargon free.”Profusely illustrated with photographs from the entirety of French’s work, and with an introduction by Thayer Tolles, curator of American Paintings and Sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this volume is poised to be the definitive biography of one of Berkshire County’s favorite sons. Chesterwood is hosting Harold this coming Thursday with a special Lincoln-themed program, but we are pleased and honored for him to come to us on the actual publication day, Tuesday, August 6. Our event begins at 5 pm and Harold will be glad to sign copies of the book after his talk. Monday Aug 5 Marc Aronoff at 5:30 pm Tuesday Aug 6 Harold Holzer at 5:00 pm For more information, please call us at 413 637 3390. And as always, thanks for reading. Matt |
