Summer hasn’t quite begun, well maybe weather-wise it has, and certainly the sidewalks in town have become a little more crowded.  We’re getting ready for a busy season, with a lineup of speakers and events already in place. Please refer to the Events page on our website.
To start things off this month, on Sunday June 2 at 4pm we host our good friend Judith Monachina on the occasion of the publication of her new book “Days of Memory: Listening to Jewish Italians Who Lived Through Fascism and the Holocaust”.
Judith began working on this book over twenty years ago. After initial oral interviews here at home she won a Fullbright fellowship to continue her work at the Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center (CDEC) in Milan, Italy. The project enabled victims of fascism to redeem their lost years, and profoundly changed the life of the author.

Little has been written about the years after Italy signed an armistice with the advancing Allied army on September 8, 1943 and the new German occupation began. Italian Jews who had lived safely through the war so far now faced deportation and genocide.

Judith’s book fills that gap and we are honored to be her exclusive bookseller until official publication date later in the month.

Judith Monachina, “Days of Memory” Sunday, June 2 at 4 pm here at The Bookstore.

Thanks for reading.
