Here’s a pretty special event coming up. Next Saturday, August 2 at 3 pm,acclaimed children’s author James Howe (Bunnicula, etc.) will be around the corner at the Lenox Library to talk about and sign copies of his new book, The Music Inside Us: Yo-Yo Ma and His Gifts to the World.

Lovingly illustrated by Jack Wong, it has been our best-selling children’s book all summer long.
Yo-Yo Ma has been such a constant presence in our lives here at Tanglewood and elsewhere in The Berkshires, (remember that impromptu performance while getting his Covid-19 shot?), it is a distinct pleasure for us to have been asked by the publisher to showcase this book, and we, in turn, have reached out to the youth department of the library for the event. Weather permitting, it will be held outdoors, in the Roche Reading Park. You can learn more here.

In a lovely coincidence, Yo-Yo will be at Tanglewood that very weekend, first in conversation with Heather Cox Richardson at Seiji Ozawa Hall at 5 pm on Saturday, then Sunday at 2:30 at the Koussevitzky Music Shed performing in an all-Beethoven program with his friend Manny Ax and the BSO.
The other thing I want to tell you is that I’ll be on WAMC’s Book Picks with Joe Donahue tomorrow, Tuesday July 29 at 11:30 am. I’ll be talking about the Yo-Yo Ma book, among others that have been receiving attention from our tables and shelves this busy summer season.
It’s been a pretty lovely season here, despite the uneasiness in the wider world—something we’re happy to help ease, whether by offering insight, escape, or a little of both.
Thanks for reading.
Matt
