The Next Three Weeks at The Bookstore April 26 – May 11
Spring is (finally) springing, and so are we!

Two poetry readings, four novels and one memoir. Please read on:

This Friday, April 26 at 4 pm we welcome back our good friend Elizabeth Elliott, who will read from her most recent collection “Tell the River”, as well as from her forthcoming volume “Across the Gulf”.

Elizabeth is a lifelong poet who has published 7 books of poetry. She is also a resident of the Berkshires, having lived in Tyringham with her husband of almost 30 years, composer and historian Clint Elliott, who passed away this past November. Here’s a link to her webpage: ElizabethElliot

The following Friday, May 3, at 6 pm we will welcome three fiction writers who all have Berkshire County in common: Tara Conklin, author most recently of “Community Board”, will be joined in conversation with Ana Reyes, author of “The House in the Pines” and Megan Tady, author of “Super Bloom”.
Tara’s book is incredibly funny, Ana’s is incredibly scary and Megan’s is incredibly poignant.

I confess I’ve been having a rough time with new fiction recently, but these three novels by these three writers have helped considerably to open my eyes to some very smart, and by that I mean good, writing.

Next day, Saturday May 4 at 4 pm Stockbridge author Joan Cohen will read from her newest novel, “DeepFake”, all about AI.  It’s a page-turner, as was her earlier book “Land of Last Chances”.  Joan’s a quiet one. On first meeting her you might not suspect she likes to tackle tough choices in her fiction. But that she does, which makes us readers all the wiser.

And then one day later, on Sunday May 5 at 4 pm our long-time friend Bea Gates will make her next appearance at The Bookstore. Bea was the absolute first poet who read here when I first got the store, back in 1976, and I just know she’s going to read some of that very early work again. Like “Matt’s Room” and “For Gerard”.

Her newest collection is called “The Burning Key: New and Selected Poems”, and it with great pleasure we welcome her back to Lenox.

And it doesn’t stop then, because the following Saturday, May 11 at 4 pm we will host long time writer but first-time author Paula Kurman and her heart-stirring memoir “The Cool of the Evening”, her 40 year marriage to baseball great, former New York Yankee and author of “Ball Four” Jim Bouton.
Paula Kurman

If you have been one of the fortunate ones who got to know Jim and Paula these last couple of dozen years, you’re going to love this book.
And if you never had that opportunity, all the more reason to come by and listen to her read from it.  It’s just a great love story!

I know. I got to play catch with Jim, got to ballroom dance with Paula.
Got to see them together in the life they made for themselves here in The Berkshires.  Everyone should be so lucky!

Okay, that’s it for a while. (More coming in June and into the summer)
Mark your calendars for any or all. Can’t wait to see you all. As always, thanks for reading.
